Gingerbread Lane
What: One of Vancouver's most enduring holiday traditions, Gingerbread Lane is back for its 32nd year at downtown's Hyatt Regency Hotel. Give yourself plenty of time to peruse the delicious-looking gingerbread constructions arranged throughout the hotel's lobby area, each one submitted by professional cooks or enthusiastic amateur teams (often including several local schools). There are usually a few recurring themes every year––the North Pole, the Grinch and Charlie Brown's Christmas––but it's fun to wander between the entries and spot the super-clever deployment of candies, icing sugar and breakfast cereal....plus the occasional 'glass' window made from sugar sheets in some of the more elaborate buildings. If you're visiting with kids (or greedy adults) try to prevent them from picking the candies off the models! Keep in mind that this event is also an important fundraiser for Make-A-Wish Canada, with visitors encouraged to donate during or after their visit.
